Getting a Starbucks 2013 Planner: The Easy Way

With the Christmas season just around the corner, people here and there are scurrying to the Starbucks branch nearest them to accumulate the coveted stickers to be able to claim the Limited Edition Starbucks Planner. In fact, the planner is so coveted that in the first day sticker collecting, a woman drank 17 cups of coffee: 9 of the featured Christmas Beverages and 8 of the Core Beverages in one day to become the first Filipino to get a Starbucks planner.

And I don’t actually wonder why.

This year’s planner boasts a plush jacket available in black, cream and green, with the usual innovative design, discount coupons per month (from upsizes to buy one take ones), and a handy magnetic hot beverage bookmark. As usual, the Starbucks arm in their corporate social responsibility, SparkHope is the main beneficiary of the proceeds of the Starbucks planners.

To claim a planner, there are 2 routes you can take:

  1. BUY 17 CUPS of any size of Starbucks Beverages including 8 Core Beverages excluding bottled beverages and 9 from the Christmas Beverages (Toffee Nut, Peppermint Mocha and the Dark Cherry Mocha) or
  2. BUY 5000 pesos worth of Gift Certificates or merchandise.

In practice, it would route 1 would cost somewhere around here:

Now that we’re quite on the same page, here are some tips on getting the Starbucks 2013 planner, the easy way.

Hang-Out in Starbucks More Often

Surely, you’ll have friends who do not collect the stickers, so, what you can do, is to ask them if you could just have it: plain and simple. Believe it or not, this is one of the simplest yet most effective ways of getting lots of stickers. No cost, yet rewards are great.

Being Your Family and Friends to Starbucks

If you’re goal is to really finish that card, then, bring over a few friends, and think about it, in 2 or 3 more visits, the whole card would actually be filled up! Family is another option, and these all bring the sticker count higher.

Select the cheaper drinks.

If what you really want is just the planner and aren’t very particular about the taste, then, what you can do is to select the cheaper beverages that you may not have even tried.

Buy 5000 pesos worth of Gift Certificates

Think about it. The Starbucks gift certificate is something people will mostly want as a gift. With this, you hit two birds with one stone: not only do you get your planner, but you have something to give out as presents this Christmas!

Wait for People to Sell the Planners

When December starts, and avid fans of Starbucks have collected more planners than necessary, they normally sell it off, since it might be useless to have 2 planners of the same kind at the same time. As such, it might be worth the effort if you actually search for these planners in eBay or Sulit.com.ph. Some price the planners the same amount the sum of all the drinks would cost. Others, however, price it even cheaper than the cost of the Starbucks coffee. What’s cool about choosing this option is that you don’t need to worry about bringing the card, and faithfully visiting Starbucks every so often. Its easy, sometimes cheaper, and surely, a lot less effort.

With this trend of collecting stickers underway, Mr. Franklin Tiu, a Xavier alumnus who is an avid fan of the Starbucks planners gives his insight on the matter: “Buy the smallest drink so that the costs are lower. It doesn’t matter since your end in mind is the planner anyway, drinks are secondary!” Mr. Tiu has more than half of the stickers needed to get a planner.

Just before our interview ended, he adds: “After I get my planner I’m abstaining from Starbucks for the next 6 months! Hahah!”
